Eagan challenges House bill that could eliminate suburban transit

The Eagan City Council opposes a transit bill that could mean the elimination of suburban bus providers like the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority.

A bill in the Minnesota House authored by Rep. Jon Koznick, R-Lakeville, proposes the elimination of suburban transit providers that include the Burnsville-based MVTA, which serves Dakota and Scott counties.

"The resolution encourages the Minnesota Legislature, the governor, and the Metropolitan Council to continue working in partnership with suburban transit communities to preserve and strengthen a transit system that respects local governance, builds on past success, and reflects the diverse needs of the region," said Eagan Council Member Gary Hansen. "The resolution specifically declares that Eagan does not support any proposal to eliminate suburban transit services, and supports long-term, stable funding to meet the needs of our community."
