Issues & Positions
My priorities for Eagan — focused on fiscal responsibility, public safety, and a community that works for everyone.
Fiscal Prudence
Fiscal prudence while providing high-quality, cost-effective services is essential. We must continue to practice good stewardship of taxpayer funds and preserve Eagan's Aaa bond rating, enabling access to borrowed funds when needed at the lowest possible rates and maximizing our use of tax funds for needed services and investments.
Public Safety
The Eagan Police and Fire Departments provide effective and reliable public safety and security. Community surveys consistently demonstrate greater than 90% approval ratings for our police and firefighters. They are committed to serving and protecting us, and they deserve our support. Among City services, we need to maintain public safety as the highest priority.
Race Equity & Inclusion
About 30 percent of Eagan's population is Black, Indigenous, or people of color. Recognizing that our city needs a welcoming race equity and inclusion foundation across all City services, programs, policies, and budgetary decisions, the Council has implemented a major initiative in this area. Inclusive hiring practices, proactive outreach, Council expansion, housing policies, and job-promoting business regulations are strategies I support to achieve this goal.
Sustainability
Eagan has implemented regionally recognized sustainability efforts, leading to adoption of our Climate Action Plan in 2025. These efforts resulted in the City attaining the highest achievement level from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency in the GreenStep Cities program and, for the first time, the Sustainable City Award. We must remain committed to our Climate Action Plan to continue achieving our sustainability and quality-of-life goals.
Community Development
The Council's community development vision guides orderly redevelopment to preserve and enhance our quality of life. Businesses comprise the foundation of Eagan's tax base, enabling the City to maintain high-quality services while keeping overall property taxes low. I support a strong business environment to preserve Eagan's position as the employment center of Dakota County.
Along with supporting employment opportunities, we need to promote housing that is affordable for those who want to live in Eagan. Local zoning is an important planning tool that ensures communities can responsibly plan for residential development and address locally identified housing needs with resident input. I support working with the legislature to find ways to increase housing availability in our community while preserving local authority to make decisions in the best interests of Eagan.
Public Transit
We need to preserve and enhance locally controlled, responsive, high-quality public transit service tailored to the needs of Eagan residents and businesses. The Minnesota Valley Transit Authority's continued operations and services are needed. I will continue to work with employers, community organizations, and residents to support MVTA, which knows our community, works hard to understand evolving needs, and helps ensure that people in our service area can travel conveniently and efficiently throughout the region.
